Before the Installation: What We Need to Know

When you get in touch with us, we'll ask a few quick questions to assess your property and recommend the right charger for you. These include:

• What make and model of EV do you drive (or plan to drive)?
• Where is your consumer unit (fuse box) located?
• Where would you like the charger positioned — driveway, garage, side of house?
• Do you have solar panels, or are you planning to install them?

For most straightforward installations, we can provide a firm quote over the phone or by email — no site visit required in advance. If your property has a more complex setup (older wiring, a long cable run, or a three-phase supply), we may arrange a brief pre-installation visit to ensure everything goes smoothly on the day.

The Installation Day: Step by Step

Most home EV charger installations are completed within a single working day. Here's what to expect:

Morning: Arrival and Assessment

Our engineer will arrive at the agreed time and introduce themselves. They'll do a quick walk-round of your property to confirm the planned route for the cable and the charger mounting position. This is your opportunity to raise any last-minute questions or preferences about cable routing or charger height.

Cable Installation

The engineer will run a dedicated armoured cable from your consumer unit to the charge point location. Where possible, cables are run through walls internally to keep the external appearance neat. Any external cable runs are secured with appropriate trunking or conduit.

A new dedicated circuit breaker will be added to your consumer unit for the charger — this is a standard requirement and keeps your EV charging circuit separate from the rest of your home electrics.

Charger Mounting and Connection

The charge point unit is then mounted on the wall and connected to the cable. We'll position it at a comfortable height and angle for your vehicle's charging port. Most units are a clean, compact design that looks unobtrusive on any wall.

Testing and Commissioning

Once connected, the engineer carries out a full electrical test and plugs in the charger to verify it's working correctly. If your charger has a smart app (most modern units do), we'll help you download it and connect the charger to your home Wi-Fi so you can track charging sessions, set schedules, and monitor costs.

Handover and Documentation

Before leaving, the engineer will walk you through the charger's operation, answer any questions, and provide you with an electrical installation certificate compliant with BS 7671. This certificate is important to keep — you may need it for insurance purposes or when selling your property.

Which Charger Is Right for Me?

We supply and install a range of 7kW and 22kW smart chargers compatible with all electric vehicles. For most domestic properties with single-phase electricity (which is the vast majority of UK homes), a 7kW charger is the standard choice — capable of adding around 30 miles of range per hour of charging.

If you have a three-phase electricity supply (common in some older and larger properties), a 22kW charger is possible, though the charging speed will ultimately be limited by your vehicle's on-board charger capacity.

If you have or plan to have solar panels, we can install a solar-integrated smart charger that automatically prioritises excess solar generation to charge your car — meaning your commute can effectively cost nothing on a sunny day.
